An Ekiti State High Court sitting in Ado-Ekiti has sentenced three men to death by hanging for conspiracy and armed robbery.

The convicts, Lasisi Afeez, also known as Yemi SARS, Ilesanmi Seun and Ajewole Peter, were found guilty by Justice Lekan Ogunmoye after being arraigned on charges bordering on armed robbery and unlawful possession of firearms.

The offences were said to have been committed on March 29, 2022, in Ado-Ekiti, where the defendants allegedly robbed two victims while armed with guns and cutlasses.

One of the victims, Ojo Dada Emmanuel, told the court that the robbers stormed his hospital late at night, assaulted him and others, and made away with his car, phones, laptops, cash and other valuables.

The prosecution, led by Julius Ajibare, called three witnesses and tendered exhibits including a firearm, live cartridges, vehicle documents and recovered items to support its case.

In his judgment, Justice Ogunmoye held that the prosecution proved the offences of conspiracy and armed robbery beyond reasonable doubt, relying on confessional statements and corroborating evidence.

The judge consequently sentenced the defendants to death by hanging on three of the four counts, while they were discharged on the remaining charge.
