Filmmaker Biodun Stephen advises women against pantless trend

By Folashade Olorunfemi –

Nollywood filmmaker Biodun Stephen has criticised women who follow the trend of going pantless in public, sharing her own experience at a salon.

The filmmaker recalled that she had previously made a similar post in 2015, condemning the act of going pantless. In her words, “What is this fashion trend where we cannot wear pants, and people come out in public without proper cover-up?”

She recounted an unpleasant experience at the salon where someone was not properly covered and decried the act. She stated, “This is not fashion; this is a nuisance. Who told you that panties are not good for you? Some people complain that they itch their buttocks.”

Biodun Stephen urged women to make comfortable choices from the wide variety of pants available in the market. According to her, “There is a pant for every occasion.”

She also advised wearing larger clothes that adequately cover the body, such as bubu gowns or iro and buba, instead of mini-skirts that expose private parts. She added that women should observe proper sitting posture to avoid awkward moments and embarrassment.

Biodun Stephen is a prominent Nigerian filmmaker, writer, director, and producer known for creating popular Nollywood romantic comedies and dramas such as Breaded Life, The Visit, Picture Perfect, and Sista, often focusing on relatable stories about love, relationships, and societal issues.

She is the founder and Creative Director of Shutter Speed Film Company and continues to mentor emerging talents. Her movies reach wide audiences due to the authentic African narratives they portray.
