Davido writes Trump, seeks global attention on Osun governorship poll
Afrobeats singer David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has appealed to United States President Donald Trump and the international community to closely monitor the August 15 governorship election in Osun State amid concerns over possible violence.
Davido made the appeal in a post on his X account on Tuesday, urging international stakeholders to pay attention to developments in the state as political activities intensify ahead of the election.
The singer expressed concern over reports of rising tension and the possibility of violence, intimidation and disruption of the electoral process, stressing that Osun residents should be allowed to exercise their constitutional rights without fear.
“We do not want bloodshed. We do not want intimidation. We want peace, transparency, and a free and fair election,” he said.
Davido specifically called on Trump and other international stakeholders to monitor the conduct of the election and ensure that voters are protected and their votes respected.
The singer has been vocal about the Osun election, which has attracted considerable attention because incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke, his uncle, is seeking re-election against other major contenders.
He urged election officials and security agencies to ensure that residents can go to the polls peacefully and make their choices freely, without intimidation or interference.
The August 15 poll will determine who governs Osun State for the next four years, with Adeleke seeking a second term in office.
