Dayo Adeneye blames moral decline for lack of conscious music

Kennis Music co-founder Dayo ‘D1’ Adeneye has blamed the moral decline in society for the lack of conscious music in the industry.
Speaking on the HonestBunch podcast, D1 said music fans today prefer songs that make them feel good and ignore the ones that have a message.
He urged artistes to be careful of the impact they have on the youth through their lyrics, especially when they promote drugs and internet fraud.
“Don’t forget that young ones look up to you and want to be like you. So be mindful of what you rap and sing about. If you glorify weed and Yahoo, you are telling them it is okay,” he said.
He also questioned the readiness of this generation to listen to conscious music, when they are confused about their own identity.
“Do you want to preach conscious lyrics to a generation that does not know their gender? Someone with a beard who says ‘my name is Linda’. Is that who you want to talk to?” he asked.
D1 also criticized Nigerian women who rely on their “physical attributes over intellect” to get ahead in life.
He said they should focus on their brains and skills, rather than their breasts and buttocks.
D1 and his friend Kenny Ogungbe founded Kennis Music, one of the leading record labels in Nigeria. He is also a politician.
