Defence Minister Matawalle calls for calm, urges security action in Osun crisis

The Minister of State for Defence, Dr. Bello Mohammad Matawalle, has expressed deep concern over the recent violence in local government councils across Osun State, urging security agencies to take swift action to restore law and order.

In a statement issued on Friday, Matawalle emphasized the need for proactive measures to prevent further loss of lives and property.

He reaffirmed that the government remains committed to ensuring justice, equity, and the rule of law, in line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration’s principles.

“The recent incident in Osun State, in which lives were lost, should not be allowed to continue. As Minister of State for Defence, my duty also includes the protection of lives and properties of all citizens,” Matawalle stated.

He called on all stakeholders, including political leaders, community members, and civil society organizations, to respect the rule of law and engage in constructive dialogue.

He stressed that collaboration is crucial in fostering peace and stability in Osun State, which is vital for the region’s progress and development.

Matawalle also urged residents to remain calm and refrain from actions that could escalate tensions. He assured the people that the federal government is committed to their safety, with security measures being reinforced to prevent further unrest.

Reaffirming the administration’s dedication to democratic principles, he stated that the government would continue to protect the rights of all citizens and work towards a peaceful and stable Nigeria.
