Defence Ministers, CDS visit North-East frontlines, reaffirm FG’s commitment to security

The Minister of Defence, Alhaji Abubakar Badaru, Minister of State for Defence, Dr. Bello Matawalle, and the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Musa, on Friday visited frontline troops in Borno State as part of efforts to assess the security situation in the region.
Speaking at the Borno State Government House in Maiduguri, Minister Badaru said the visit aimed to evaluate current security challenges and strategise with state authorities on long-term solutions.
He assured residents of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s commitment to restoring peace and security in the North-East and across Nigeria.
In his remarks, Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Zulum, expressed gratitude to the visiting defence officials and pledged the state’s continued support for the Federal Government and the Armed Forces. He called for increased support for Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), including additional manpower and operational platforms.
The governor also stressed the importance of reclaiming Lake Chad for agricultural and economic development in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Tinubu.
The delegation also visited the headquarters of OPHK, where the outgoing Theatre Commander, Major General Waidi Shaibu, briefed them on the command’s operations, achievements, and ongoing challenges.
General Musa, speaking on behalf of the ministers, commended the troops for their sacrifices and urged them to intensify efforts in tackling the persistent security threats in the region.
In a related development, the Minister of Defence addressed soldiers at the 212 Battalion in Maiduguri, conveying President Tinubu’s appreciation for their dedication and assuring them of the government’s commitment to meeting their operational needs.
