Dominant D’Tigress thrash Cameroon to reach Afrobasket semi-final

By Tosin Omojola –
Nigeria’s D’Tigress produced a sparkling performance late Thursday night, overpowering their Cameroonian counterparts 83–47 to qualify for the semi-final of the 2025 FIBA Afrobasket Championship in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire.
With their third win in as many games, the Nigerians advanced to the semi-finals and secured the fourth and final spot for African teams in the 2026 Women’s Basketball World Cup Qualifying Tournaments.
The six-time champions, who will face Senegal in one of the semi-final matchups, have kept their title defense campaign alive.

The victory extends their unbeaten run in Africa to 27 games dating back to 2015, moving them closer to a record fifth consecutive title. Only Senegal has previously achieved Nigeria’s current feat of four straight titles.
While Nigeria continues to rewrite the history of women’s basketball in Africa, Cameroon, a former silver medalist, will now compete for fifth place — an improvement on their sixth-place finish in 2023.
The win sets up a semi-final clash against Senegal, promising to be a blockbuster encounter.
Senegal booked their place in the semi-finals after defeating host nation Côte d’Ivoire 66–60 in the third quarter-final game.
