Don’t lose focus after Gabon victory, NIS boss warns Super Eagles
By Tosin Omojola –
The Director-General and Chief Executive Officer of the National Institute for Sports (NIS), Comrade Philip Shaibu, has urged the Super Eagles not to be carried away by Thursday’s emphatic win over Gabon but to remain focused ahead of the final of the 2026 World Cup qualifier playoff.
While congratulating the Eagles on their 4–1 victory over the Gabonese side in the first semi-final of the CAF 2026 World Cup qualifying playoff in Rabat, Morocco, Shaibu urged the team to stay focused on the next game.
Shaibu, who is the immediate past Deputy Governor of Edo State and was at the Prince Moulay El Hassan Sports Complex in Rabat to cheer the team, praised the players for their commitment and doggedness in securing the win.
“The Super Eagles have really made us proud tonight, and I salute them for that. Even when the Gabonese equalised, they kept their composure and determination,” he said.
The NIS DG further charged the Eagles to remain focused on the next task ahead against either the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon or the Leopards of DR Congo.
“With today’s victory gone, it is not yet over. They should not be carried away by the euphoria of this win. They must remain focused on the task ahead,” Shaibu noted.
