Makinde vows continuous dialogue with genuine Ibadan Circular Road landowners

Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, has reiterated his administration’s readiness to engage genuine landowners affected by the ongoing Ibadan Circular Road project, describing recent protests against the initiative as politically motivated.
The governor made the statement on Tuesday during the commissioning of the Ibadan Central Bus Terminal at Iwo Road, Ibadan. He emphasized that his government remains focused on completing the 113-kilometre road, a landmark project he said would unlock new economic opportunities for the state.
Makinde expressed disappointment that some individuals were attempting to politicize the Circular Road project, which he described as crucial to Oyo State’s future development. According to him, the initiative was inherited from a previous administration, and his government had taken steps to redesign and reposition it for maximum public benefit.
“Leadership is about taking tough decisions that will benefit future generations, not about playing to the gallery,” the governor said. “We will continue to consult with genuine landowners, but we will not allow politically motivated actions to distract us from our developmental goals.”
He explained that the Ibadan Circular Road forms a critical part of his administration’s infrastructure master plan aimed at reducing traffic congestion within the metropolis, improving road connectivity, and promoting regional trade and investment.
Governor Makinde noted that once completed, the 113-kilometre road would create new economic corridors, attract investors, and enhance the movement of goods and people across the state. He added that the project would also serve as a major driver of industrial growth and urban expansion.
Former President Olusegun Obasanjo, who attended the commissioning ceremony, commended Makinde for his infrastructural strides, particularly in the transportation sector. He described the governor’s efforts as visionary, transformative, and a model for other states to emulate.
