The Accountant-General of the Federation, Shamsudeen Ogunjimi, has disclosed that Nigeria’s Excess Crude Account (ECA) balance stood at $473,754.57 as of April 2025.
Ogunjimi made the disclosure during the 149th meeting of the National Economic Council (NEC), held on Thursday at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, and chaired by Vice-President Kashim Shettima.
The ECA, established in 2004 under former President Olusegun Obasanjo, was created to save oil revenues above the budgetary benchmark as a buffer against oil price volatility in global markets. However, the account has experienced significant depletion over the years and has remained largely stagnant in recent months.
For context, the ECA balance was reported at $72.4 million in February 2021 by the then Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning, Zainab Ahmed.
In addition, Ogunjimi reported that the Stabilisation Account had a balance of N63.53 billion, while the Natural Resources Development Account stood at N72.86 billion as of April 2025.
