Edo Gov suspends Attorney General, LG Commission Chair over alleged financial infractions

Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo has suspended Samson Osagie, the state’s Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, along with Damian Lawani, Chairman of the Edo Local Government Service Commission, over alleged financial infractions.

In a statement released on Wednesday, Umar Ikhilor, Secretary to the State Government, announced that the suspension takes effect immediately.

He added that an investigative committee has been set up to probe the allegations.

“The governor has approved the suspension of the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Hon. Samson Osagie, Ph.D., and the Chairman of the Edo State Local Government Service Commission, Hon. Damian Lawani, over allegations of grave official and financial infractions,” the statement read.

Ikhilor explained that the decision was necessary to allow for a thorough investigation, stressing that the suspension will remain in place until the inquiry is concluded and appropriate recommendations are made.
