Edun, Dangiwa resign voluntarily, not sacked – Presidency

Former Minister of Finance, Wale Edun, and Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Ahmed Musa Dangiwa, resigned from President Bola Tinubu’s cabinet voluntarily, the Presidency has said.

Edun, who submitted his resignation on Monday—his 70th birthday—cited appreciation for his time in government. In his farewell letter, he said: “It has been a pleasure and privilege to serve your administration and the Renewed Hope Agenda.”

He also praised the administration, adding: “Under your leadership, Nigeria has emerged stronger, more resilient and more internationally respected.” He concluded: “I wish you and the administration every success in the future.”

The former finance minister reportedly held a valedictory meeting with President Tinubu at the State House before his exit was formally announced.

Similarly, Dangiwa also stepped down, thanking the President for the opportunity to serve in the Federal Executive Council.

The Presidency, in a statement by Bayo Onanuga, spokesperson to the president said President Tinubu had accepted the resignations and commended both men, noting his appreciation for their contributions to ongoing reforms.

It further stated that the President “has urged the new Minister of Finance, Taiwo Oyedele, to consolidate ongoing reforms and advance the administration’s fiscal and economic objectives with renewed focus, discipline, and innovation.”
