EFCC, CLO partner to tackle financial crimes, terrorism in Borno

The Zonal Director of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in Maiduguri, Commander of the EFCC (CE) Aisha A.T. Habib, has called for increased collaboration and intelligence sharing between civil society organisations and the Commission to combat economic and financial crimes in Nigeria.
Habib made the appeal on Wednesday, May 7, 2025, during a courtesy visit by the Chairman and Executive Members of the Civil Liberty Organisation (CLO), Maiduguri Branch, to the EFCC Zonal Command in Borno State.
Describing the CLO as a vital partner in the anti-corruption fight, Habib acknowledged the organisation’s support through information sharing, case reporting, and participation in anti-corruption advocacy campaigns.
She urged the CLO to deepen its cooperation with the Commission, particularly by sharing intelligence related to terrorism and terrorism financing in Borno State and the wider North-East region.
“The insurgency in the land needs to be tackled,” Habib stated. “This can only happen if all stakeholders come together and share relevant information that can help curtail the activities of insurgents.”
In his remarks, CLO Executive Chairman, Comrade Dahiru Hassan, pledged continued support for the EFCC’s mandate. He highlighted employment racketeering as a growing concern in the state and promised to refer related cases to the Commission for proper investigation and prosecution.
“One serious issue needing the EFCC’s intervention is employment and job racketeering in the state,” Hassan said. “We have received complaints and will be transferring those cases to the Commission, as we lack the mandate to prosecute such matters.”
Hassan also commended the EFCC’s efforts in the state and praised the leadership style of the Zonal Director, urging her to sustain the momentum in the fight against corruption.
