EFCC denies allegation of secret meeting with politician

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has strongly denied allegations made by Mr. Paul Ibe, spokesperson to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, that its Executive Chairman, Mr. Ola Olukoyede, held a secret meeting with an unnamed politician.

The EFCC, in a press statement issued on Friday, expressed outrage over the claims, describing them as “unfounded” and “fabricated.” The statement was issued in response to comments made by Ibe during an appearance on Politics Today, a Channels Television programme hosted by Seun Okinbaloye, on Thursday, May 22, 2025.

During the interview, Ibe offered a series of theories and assumptions regarding opposition politics and recent defections, including an accusation that Olukoyede and the Solicitor General of the Federation met with a governor 48 hours before his defection to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

The EFCC refuted the allegation, saying it was “in bad taste” and entirely false. “Olukoyede has stressed it at several fora that he is apolitical, and the EFCC is totally wired against partisan tendencies,” the statement said.

The Commission called on the public to disregard the claims, describing the alleged meeting with the unnamed governor as a figment of Mr. Ibe’s imagination.
