The Grand Chief Imam of Ikare-Akoko in Ondo State, Alhaji Abbas Abubakar Muhammad, has urged Muslim faithful to promote unity and avoid actions capable of causing division in the country.
Muhammad gave the charge during the Eid-al-Adha sermon held at the Ikare-Akoko Central Eid prayer ground on Wednesday.
The Islamic cleric said the festival symbolised obedience, togetherness and commitment to the teachings of Allah, stressing that unity remained essential for national development.
He noted that communities could only progress when scholars, elders, youths and women worked together for a common purpose.
According to him, the younger generation must embrace good morals, faith and discipline to build a peaceful and prosperous society.
The cleric also appealed to residents to support the government and security agencies in safeguarding lives and property across the state and the country.
Muhammad described security as one of the greatest blessings from Allah, saying peace and stability were necessary for meaningful development and human existence.
He further commended Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, for reopening the Ikare Central Mosque and Eid prayer ground, which had been shut in October 2022 by the late former Governor Rotimi Akeredolu, following a leadership crisis.
