Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has assured families of the abducted teachers and pupils in Oriire Local Government Area that the government is working to secure their safe return.
Makinde gave the assurance on Wednesday during the Eid-Al-Adha celebration at his Ikolaba residence in Ibadan, where he received Deputy Governor Bayo Lawal and Muslim faithful.
He said the state government, in collaboration with security agencies, is making sustained efforts to ensure the victims are rescued and reunited with their families, amid growing concern over insecurity in parts of the state.
“We are working round the clock to ensure that the children are reunited with their families,” the governor said, while offering prayers for the affected families.
Makinde further urged residents to remain calm and united, cautioning against actions or narratives that could deepen religious or political divisions in the state.
He also reaffirmed that Oyo remains a peaceful and tolerant state, stressing that public office is temporary, while the safety and wellbeing of citizens remain paramount.
Deputy Governor Bayo Lawal also commended the administration’s commitment to peace and inclusive governance, describing the Eid-al-Adha gathering as a reminder of unity and sacrifice.
At the Agodi Eid praying ground in Ibadan, Muslim faithful also offered special prayers for the safe return of the abducted victims and called for intensified security operations in affected communities.
