Eid-el-Maulud: Tinubu, Shettima urge Muslims to emulate Prophet Muhammad teachings

President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima have urged Muslims across Nigeria to draw lessons from the life and teachings of Prophet Muhammad as they celebrate Eid-el-Maulud.

In separate messages issued on Tuesday, the two leaders called on Muslims to uphold the values of peace, compassion, humility, tolerance, justice and service to humanity associated with the Prophet.

President Tinubu said the Maulud celebration should go beyond marking the birth of Prophet Muhammad, urging Muslims to use the occasion for introspection, prayer and a renewed commitment to his teachings.

“The Muslim faithful should make deliberate effort to adhere to the teachings of Prophet Muhammad. There are great lessons of devotion, perseverance, tolerance, humility and selflessness that we can all learn from the life of the Prophet,” he said.

The President also urged religious leaders to use the occasion to pray for Nigeria and encourage their followers to translate the Prophet’s teachings into their commitment to the country.

He called on Muslims celebrating the festival to extend a hand of fellowship to the needy and vulnerable, while praying against insecurity and other challenges affecting parts of the country.

Similarly, Shettima urged Nigerians to renew their commitment to peace, compassion and service to humanity, saying the life of Prophet Muhammad remained an enduring lesson in mercy, humility, justice and patience.

He said the values taught by the Prophet should inspire Nigerians to strengthen the bonds that unite the country, care for vulnerable citizens and reject hatred, division and intolerance.

“At a time when our nation continues to experience sustained economic growth under the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, these values should inspire us to strengthen the bonds that unite us, care for the vulnerable and reject every form of hatred, division and intolerance,” Shettima said.
