Ekiti 2026: Police warn against violence, destruction ahead of guber election

The Ekiti State Police Command has cautioned politicians and their supporters against engaging in acts capable of disrupting peace as campaigns intensify ahead of the June 20 governorship election.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Sunday Abutu, issued the warning in a statement released on Sunday in Ado Ekiti.
Abutu said the Commissioner of Police, Michael Falade, urged residents to remain law-abiding and promptly report suspicious activities, disclosing that, “Anybody found culpable of unlawful acts will be severely dealt with in accordance with the provisions of the law.”
The command equally expressed concern over the activities of suspected party loyalists accused of vandalising campaign posters and billboards across the state, warning that offenders would face prosecution, hence the need for political actors to operate within the law.
“The Police Command wishes to state emphatically that the destruction of banners and billboards of political parties is against the Electoral Act and also a crime against the freedom of expression as enshrined in the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”
“Politicians are therefore advised to play the game according to the rules and guide their supporters accordingly to avoid dire consequences,” he noted.
Abutu also called on parents and guardians to caution their children against being used for political violence, amid stressing the need for residents to report emergencies through the command’s hotline, 08062335577.
