An Ekiti State High Court sitting in Ado-Ekiti has sentenced a 48-year-old man named Olatide Temitope Emmanuel to death by hanging for posing as a medical doctor and causing the death of a pregnant woman during a failed delivery operation.

The convict was found guilty by Justice Jubril Aladejana after being arraigned on December 11, 2025, on charges of murder and impersonation.

According to court hearings, Emmanuel killed Bosede Falade on June 24, 2019, during childbirth at Odo Ikole compound in Erinmope-Ekiti, while falsely presenting himself as a medical doctor.

Emmanuel’s offences violated Sections 316 and 319(1) of the Criminal Code Law of Ekiti State, 2012.

During his defence, the defendant disclosed to the court that he trained as a nursing apprentice in a hospital in Lagos State and later opened his own clinic in Erinmope-Ekiti in 2019.

Delivering judgment, Justice Aladejana held that the defendant admitted was not a certified medical doctor but still went on to perform a surgery on the deceased, an act the court described as reckless and unlawful.

Temitope Emmanuel was consequently sentenced to death by hanging.
