NASS leadership meets Tinubu at Aso Rock

Leaders of the National Assembly has met with President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Tuesday, hours after both chambers resumed plenary following a brief recess.
Those at the meeting included Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin, Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele, Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas, Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu and Imo State Governor Hope Uzodinma.
They arrived at the forecourt of the State House at about 3:30 p.m. and left roughly 30 minutes later without speaking to journalists. The purpose of the meeting had not been made public as of the time of filing this report.
Both chambers of the National Assembly resumed legislative activities earlier in the day after postponing their initial resumption date of February 24. The shift was intended to allow committees conclude budget defence sessions with ministries, departments and agencies.
The meeting came about a week after Tinubu hosted senators and members of the House of Representatives to separate Ramadan iftar dinners, during which he urged lawmakers to begin constitutional amendments to establish state police as part of efforts to address insecurity.
At the iftar with senators on February 25, Tinubu called on lawmakers to consider amending the constitution to create state police, saying it would help secure the country and address threats in forests and communities. He made a similar appeal when he hosted members of the House of Representatives on February 27, urging them to include safeguards against potential abuse by state governors.
