Ekiti Governor’s Cup 2024 reaches quarterfinal stage

The 2024 Ekiti Governor’s Cup has reached its quarterfinal stage, continuing to deliver electrifying football action across the state.
Proudly sponsored by Peculiar Ultimate Concerns and organized by the Schools’ Sports Foundation, the tournament has showcased the remarkable talents of young footballers from Ekiti State.
The Round of 16 matches, held at various venues, were a testament to grit, determination, and the unrelenting passion for the beautiful game.
In the first encounter, Christ’s School narrowly defeated Eporo High School in a fiercely contested match. The decisive moment came in the second half when a brilliantly executed free kick secured the win. Known for their disciplined style, Christ’s School has cemented its reputation as a team to watch.
Government College overcame a resilient United Comprehensive team in a high-intensity clash. Relying on home advantage and clinical finishing, they sealed their spot in the quarterfinals with a dramatic 85th-minute strike.
Egbeoba High School and Iludun Community High School played out a goalless draw in regulation time. However, Egbeoba High showed nerves of steel during the penalty shootout, converting all their kicks. Their goalkeeper’s heroic three saves ensured their advancement.
In one of the most dramatic matches, St. Augustine Comprehensive High School emerged victorious after a marathon penalty shootout. The decisive moment came when the final kick from their opponents hit the crossbar, securing St. Augustine’s place in the next round.
Efon High School kept their dreams alive with a hard-fought penalty win. The turning point was their goalkeeper’s crucial save, which sparked jubilant celebrations among their supporters.
Meanwhile, Corpus Christi delivered a tactical masterclass, defeating Ekiti Parapo College with two stunning goals. Despite a spirited comeback attempt by Ekiti Parapo, Corpus Christi maintained their composure to secure their place in the quarterfinals.
