Ekiti govt approves N10bn for hospitals, roads, water projects

The Ekiti State Government has approved more than N10 billion for healthcare, water supply, road infrastructure, aviation and other development projects across the state.
The State Commissioner for Information, Taiwo Olatunbosun, disclosed this in a statement issued in Ado Ekiti on Wednesday after the State Executive Council meeting.
Olatunbosun said the council approved N6.765 billion for the construction of new hospital facilities at the General Hospitals in Ikogosi, Awo and Ipao-Ekiti.
He explained that each hospital project would cost N2.255 billion and include facilities such as male and female wards, maternity and delivery suites, children’s wards, theatres, laboratories, consulting rooms, mortuaries and staff quarters.
The commissioner added that N1.681 billion was approved for the rehabilitation and upgrading of 104 boreholes across the state under the World Bank-supported Sustainable Urban and Rural Water Supply, Sanitation and Hygiene programme.
According to him, the boreholes would be converted into solar-powered reticulated water facilities to improve access to potable water, with the projects expected to be completed within four weeks.
He said the council also approved N1.093 billion for the construction of Olajiga Street, Egbewa, and the 915-metre GRA 3rd Extension road network in Ado Ekiti, with the projects scheduled for completion within 12 months.
Other approvals, he disclosed, included N448.074 million for office equipment and furniture, N340.612 million for an access road to the CVOR navigation aid site at the Ekiti Agro-Allied International Cargo Airport, and N155.35 million for streetlight projects in Afao-Ekiti and the Government House.
