A political pressure group, Grassroots 121 Action, has commenced grassroots mobilisation for the Allied Peoples Movement presidential candidate, Seyi Makinde, in Ekiti State, with a target of securing at least 200,000 votes for him in the 2027 election.
The convener of the group, Lanre Fajuyi, disclosed this in a statement issued in Ado Ekiti on Thursday, following the inauguration of 5,000 polling-unit canvassers across the state.
According to Fajuyi, the mobilisation structure covers all 2,445 polling units in the 16 local government areas of Ekiti State, with unit coordinators and their assistants mandated to engage directly with residents.
She said the canvassers would identify issues affecting communities, educate voters and sustain grassroots engagement as the group works towards its electoral target ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
Fajuyi stated that the 200,000-vote objective was part of a broader effort to build an extensive grassroots network for Makinde, stressing that the campaign would require sustained commitment rather than one-off political activities.
“We have set a clear target of a minimum of 200,000 votes in Ekiti State. This is not a declaration to be made and forgotten; it is a responsibility that requires organisation, commitment, and sustained engagement at the grassroots,” she said.
The group also criticised the economic policies of the President Bola Tinubu-led Federal Government, claiming that rising living costs and other economic pressures had worsened the financial difficulties faced by Nigerians.
Fajuyi added that the group considered the advocacy for Makinde part of a wider discussion on Nigeria’s political direction, saying its activities would focus on voter education, participation and sustained mobilisation across Ekiti State.
