Olu Jacobs’ son recalls how late actor kept family life private

By Okonkwo Anthonia

Soji Jacobs, son of late veteran actor Olu Jacobs, has shared how his father deliberately kept his family life separate from the demands and attention that came with his successful acting career.

Speaking at the Night of Tributes held in Lagos in honour of the legendary actor, Soji recalled that he never viewed his father through the eyes of the public while growing up, but simply as his dad.

He said that despite the enormous love and attention Olu Jacobs received from fans and colleagues in the entertainment industry, the actor maintained a clear boundary between his public and family lives.

According to Soji, his father placed great importance on his family and created a private space where his children could enjoy a normal relationship with him away from public attention.

He described Olu Jacobs as a warm and genuine person, adding that the late actor was deliberate about protecting his family’s privacy despite his status as one of Nigeria’s most celebrated actors.

The tribute event, held at Glover Memorial Hall in Lagos, brought together family members, colleagues, friends and other well-wishers who gathered to celebrate the life and legacy of the veteran actor.

Olu Jacobs died on August 16, 2024, at the age of 82, after a distinguished career spanning several decades in film, television and theatre.

The Night of Tributes provided an opportunity for those who knew the actor personally and professionally to reflect on his contributions to the Nigerian entertainment industry and the memories he left with his family, colleagues and admirers.
