The Peoples Democratic Party governorship candidate in the June 20 Ekiti State election, Dr Wole Oluyede, has teamed up with Governor Biodun Oyebanji to mobilise support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election in 2027.

Oluyede, who contested the governorship poll against Oyebanji, disclosed his decision during a meeting with the governor, signalling a fresh political alignment between the two former rivals.

The development was announced in a statement by the governor’s Special Adviser on Media, Olayinka Oyebode, who said Oluyede formally informed Oyebanji of his commitment to the president’s 2027 bid.

The meeting also provided an avenue for the two politicians to discuss the development of Ekiti and issues surrounding Oyebanji’s second term, which begins on October 16.

Oyebode said the discussions focused on strengthening cooperation in the interest of the state and its residents, with both sides emphasising the need to prioritise Ekiti’s development.

Oyebanji commended Oluyede for what he described as his statesmanship and commitment to the progress of Ekiti and the country.

Oluyede had earlier declared his support for Tinubu shortly after the governorship election, despite losing to the incumbent, and subsequently visited the president at the Presidential Villa in Abuja to reaffirm his backing for the 2027 presidential campaign.

His latest meeting with Oyebanji is expected to further deepen political cooperation in Ekiti, with the former rivals now poised to deploy their respective networks in support of Tinubu’s second-term ambition.
