Ekiti pensioners go spiritual over unpaid benefits, appeal to Gov. Oyebanji

By Boye Oyeyemi –

Pensioners in Ekiti State have called on Governor Biodun Oyebanji to release their monthly union deductions to enable the body to meet its administrative and welfare obligations.

The Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Pensioners (NUP) in the state, Temitope Popoola, made the appeal during a special prayer session held to commemorate this year’s Pensioners Day and to seek divine intervention over their unpaid entitlements.

Adetola explained that the government had withheld the monthly deductions of the Union for the past six months, and the development was gradually taking a toll on the progress of the Union.

He advised the Governor to conduct a thorough investigation on the matter, claiming that he was wrongly informed about the development in the Union by some persons in the corridor of power who were protecting their own interest.

Also the secretary of the Union, Comrade Azeez Agbaje, affirmed that NUP is one and would continue to remain one, urging Governor Oyebanji to disregard any group claiming to be working for pensioners.

He urged the governor to order the payment of their outstanding check-off dues, which is the right of members and the union.

Presiding over the prayer, Pastor Adeniyi Olugbenga urged the leadership of the Union and members to put their trust in God, especially at this critical time.

Similarly, Alhaji Yakubu, who led the Muslim prayer, prayed for all to touch the soul of the Governor to give improved priority to the welfare of the pensioners.
