The Ondo State Police Command has intensified its crackdown on cultism, arraigning four suspects and launching a manhunt for fleeing members across the state.
The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, disclosed this in a statement on Thursday, noting that the operations were driven by intelligence gathering and coordinated tactical efforts.
The suspects, Akinboyo Adeniyi, Oyewumi Samuel, Adepoju Godday and Adebayo Igbekoyi, were arrested during a raid in Ode-Irele on April 20.
Police said preliminary investigations linked them to cult-related activities, adding that they had been charged to court.
In a related development, two other suspects, Jimoh Kazeem and Joseph Michael, were transferred to the Anti-Cultism Squad in Akure, where they were allegedly identified as members of the Eiye Confraternity.
Recovered items included a blue beret, suspected charms, substances believed to be Indian hemp, and an unregistered motorcycle.
Jimoh said, “The arrests were made possible through credible intelligence and well-coordinated tactical operations by our operatives.”
He added, “Efforts are ongoing to apprehend other fleeing suspects, while investigations continue to unravel the full extent of their activities.”
