Ekiti Rainbow Coalition emerges ahead of 2026 governorship poll
By Boye Oyeyemi –
Ahead of the June 20, 2026 governorship election in Ekiti State, opposition political parties have formed a platform known as the Ekiti Rainbow Coalition to present a single candidate against the incumbent administration.
Chairman of the coalition, Mr Owoola Daramola, who is also the governorship candidate of the Young People’s Party (YPP), said the alliance was driven by the need to offer Ekiti people a credible alternative and better leadership.
He disclosed that the coalition comprises Accord, YPP, New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Action Alliance, Action Democratic Party (ADP), Boot Party, and a faction of the All Progressives Congress (APC), all working towards a common goal.
Speaking at a rally in Ado Ekiti on Saturday, Daramola said the coalition was mobilising support to awaken the electorate and ensure the 2026 election remains competitive rather than a mere formality.
He explained that the alliance would carefully select a widely acceptable candidate with the capacity to defeat the incumbent and other aspirants, stressing that imposition would be avoided.
Daramola said the coalition was born out of public frustration, noting that many residents were struggling economically and felt excluded from governance and decision-making processes.
Leaders of the coalition parties, including Accord and NNPP, expressed confidence in the alliance, insisting that it represents a fresh opportunity to reposition Ekiti State through inclusive and accountable governance.
