Winfred Ndidi reveals reason behind goal celebration vs Tunisia

Super Eagles captain Winfred Ndidi has explained his style of celebration after scoring the team’s first goal in the game against Tunisia.

Nigeria defeated Tunisia 3-2 last Saturday in a Group C match at the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco, with Ndidi heading in the second goal.

The former Leicester City star celebrated by dancing and revealed the reason behind it.

“That celebration was dedicated to the legendary Nwankwo Kanu, Papilo. Growing up, my father was a huge admirer of Kanu, and in our home he was more than just a footballer—he was our hero. My dad constantly spoke about his goals, his achievements, and the pride with which he represented Nigeria on the world stage.

“Before the game, I told myself that if I found the back of the net, I had to do that celebration. It was for my dad. He’s the man who introduced me to football, motivated me every step of the way, and filled my childhood with stories about Nigerian legends and what it truly means to wear the Super Eagles jersey.

“To celebrate like Kanu, in Nigeria’s colours, is my way of saying thank you to my father for his unwavering support and belief in me. It’s an incredibly special and proud moment, not just for me, but for my entire family,” he stated.
