By Deborah Oladejo, Osogbo –

An elderly man was reportedly burnt to death on Thursday after fire engulfed a residential building in Iloko-Ijesa, Ilesa East Local Government Area of Osun State.

The fire was said to have broken out in the early hours of the day, completely destroying a six-room apartment located along Ijeda Road in the town.

According to a source who spoke under the condition of anonymity, four people were inside the building at the time of the incident. Three younger occupants managed to escape, while the elderly man was unable to flee and died in the inferno.

“The house belongs to the Adubi family. The fire destroyed all six rooms in the house. We tried our best to put it out, but it was overwhelming. Sadly, the elderly man couldn’t make it out,” the source said.

When contacted, the spokesperson of the Osun State Fire Service, Mr. Adekunle Ibraheem, confirmed the incident but noted that the agency was not informed.

“Our men were not contacted for the incident,” he stated.
