Ten-time African champions, the Super Falcons of Nigeria, have retained their 36th position in the latest FIFA Women’s World Rankings released on Thursday.
According to the rankings published on FIFA’s official website, Nigeria’s position remains unchanged despite their recent triumph at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) held in Morocco.
The Super Falcons won a record-extending 10th WAFCON title last month, defeating hosts Morocco 3-2 in a thrilling comeback final. However, the feat did not influence their global standing in the new rankings.
Nigeria remains Africa’s highest-ranked women’s football team, holding firm ahead of South Africa and Morocco.
WAFCON 2024 runners-up Morocco dropped to 64th in the world but remain third in Africa. South Africa’s Banyana Banyana maintained 54th globally and second on the continent.
Ghana’s Black Queens, who secured third place at the tournament, slipped to 67th in the world rankings, while other African teams such as Zambia, Cameroon, and Côte d’Ivoire followed in the top 10.
Africa’s top ten women’s teams according to FIFA are: 1. Nigeria 2. South Africa 3. Morocco 4. Zambia 5. Cameroon 6. Ghana 7. Côte d’Ivoire 8. Mali 9. Algeria 10. Senegal.
