‘Even at 60, my commitment to Lagos remains unshaken’ — Sanwo-Olu

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has pledged to rededicate himself to building a Lagos that works for everyone. He made this commitment during a thanksgiving event held on Wednesday to mark his 60th birthday, themed “Rhythms of Worship with Adura.”
In his address, Sanwo-Olu expressed gratitude to Lagosians for the opportunity to serve, describing Lagos as more than just a city but an idea and a promise. “Even at 60, I rededicate myself to building a Lagos that works for all,” he said.
The governor described his milestone as both personal and spiritual — a moment for reflection, gratitude, and renewed commitment. “Today is about God — His goodness, faithfulness, and the rhythm of His love that echoes in my life and our beloved Lagos,” he said.
Sanwo-Olu explained that the theme, Adura, stemmed from his name, Aduragbemi, meaning “prayer has lifted me,” emphasizing the importance of prayer in his life and leadership.
He thanked his family and team, saying, “Without them, I would not be the man I am today. To my friends, colleagues, and team members who challenge and support me, I say thank you. This celebration belongs to you as much as it does to me.”
Sanwo-Olu concluded by reaffirming his commitment to delivering a greater Lagos, grounded in inclusivity, growth, and prosperity for all residents.
The event featured powerful performances from gospel artistes including Moses Bliss, Mercy Chinwo, Arugbo Ojo, Emma Oh My God, the MFM Guitar Choir, and the Dream Catchers Academy, who led spiritually uplifting worship.
Dignitaries at the event included Governors Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo, Ademola Adeleke of Osun, and Biodun Oyebanji of Ekiti. Also present were former Lagos governor and ex-Minister of Works, Babatunde Fashola; Lagos Deputy Governor, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat; federal and state lawmakers; traditional rulers; party faithful; and members of the governor’s extended family.
