Dr. Ayo Lam-Adesina, son of former Oyo State governor, Lam Adesina, has declared his intention to contest the 2027 governorship election in Oyo State under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Lam-Adesina made the declaration during an interactive session with journalists in Ibadan, stating that although he lacks the financial strength typically associated with competitive political campaigns, however, he is relying on faith and grassroots support to pursue his ambition.
He said his aspiration is aimed at restoring what he described as Oyo State’s progressive heritage and repositioning the state as a land of opportunities for all residents, regardless of social status.
The aspirant attributed his political philosophy to the influence of his late father and other prominent South-West leaders like Obafemi Awolowo and Bola Ige, noting that their principles of free education and people-oriented governance shaped his outlook.
Lam-Adesina also expressed concern over what he termed “declining standards in public education,” questioning whether parents could still confidently send their children to government-owned schools as was common in the past.
He further raised an alarm over the gaps in healthcare delivery, citing a recent free medical outreach programmes he sponsored, he said high rates of undiagnosed hypertension and diabetes among residents were revealed.
The ex-governor’s son disclosed that he had previously declined federal and state appointments, including during the administration of former President Olusegun Obasanjo and under former Oyo State Governor, Abiola Ajimobi, in order to avoid perceptions of political entitlement.
He added that he would commence consultations across party structures and political blocs in the state, expressing confidence that the APC could mount a strong challenge in 2027 if leaders prioritise unity and reconciliation.
