Youth group knocks Ondo APC for holding congress despite court restraint

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State has come under fire from a youth group for going ahead with its state congress despite a court order halting the exercise.
The group, Oodua Progressive Youth League, faulted the party’s action, while urging its national leadership to address the growing crisis within the party.
Their reaction followed the conduct of the state congress on Wednesday, during which new state executive members were elected.
Western Post had before the exercise, reported that the Federal High Court in Akure gave a restraining order, preventing the party from proceeding with the congress.
However, despite the court’s directive, the party conducted the congress, a development critics have described as a disregard for judicial authority.
In a statement made public on Wednesday, the League’s General Secretary, Wale Abdulwaheed, said the APC must uphold its image as a law-abiding party and respect court pronouncements.
He further warned that ignoring the order could trigger protracted legal battles and deepen divisions within the party, even as violence have reportedly begun in some major areas like Idanre Local Government Area, where two persons were said to have been killed in a ward congress.
