Ex-minister Edun reflects on service under Tinubu, highlights economic gains
Former Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, has expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the opportunity to serve in various capacities since the inception of the administration in May 2023.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, Edun said it was an honour to contribute to the implementation of the administration’s economic agenda, noting that he first served as head of the Presidential Transition Committee, later as Special Adviser on Monetary Policy, before his appointment as minister.
He stated that the administration assumed office at a time of significant economic challenges, but noted that coordinated efforts across government helped to stabilise the macroeconomic environment and strengthen fiscal sustainability.
According to him, the reforms implemented under the administration led to notable improvements, with economic growth rising from about 2 per cent to over 4 per cent, while inflation declined from 35 per cent to 15 per cent.
Edun attributed these outcomes to efforts aimed at restoring public trust, boosting investor confidence and enhancing economic coordination to support inclusive growth.
“I wish to thank Mr President for the confidence he reposed in me to serve, and it has been a rare privilege to contribute to policies and programmes aimed at strengthening the economy and improving the lives of Nigerians,” he said.
He added that he was proud of the achievements recorded in collaboration with members of the Federal Executive Council, state governors, and partners in both the public and private sectors, as well as professionals supporting the nation’s economic transformation.
Edun also thanked domestic and international stakeholders for their support and collaboration during his time in office, expressing optimism about Nigeria’s economic trajectory and pledging continued commitment to national service.
