Ex-Oyetola aide accuses Osun Amotekun of assault, unlawful detention

By Deborah Oladejo, Osogbo –
A former media aide to ex-Osun State Governor Adegboyega Oyetola, Mr. Taiwo Olaore, has accused operatives of the Osun Amotekun Corps of assault and unlawful detention over a trending video allegedly linked to him.
Olaore, an indigene of Iragbiji in Boripe Local Government Area, told journalists in Osogbo that the incident happened around 10 p.m. on Wednesday when he noticed strange movements around his residence. Upon stepping outside to investigate, he was confronted by armed men who identified themselves as Amotekun officers.
He alleged that when he resisted, the men beat him with hard objects before handcuffing him. They then transported him on three motorcycles from Iragbiji to the Amotekun Command in Osogbo, where he was locked in a cell.
According to him, he was later brought before the State Commandant of Amotekun, Mr. Adekunle Omoyele, who questioned him about a viral video in which someone claimed to have transferred N6,700 to an Amotekun officer’s Opay account.
Olaore maintained his innocence, insisting he was not the person in the video, before being handed over to the police at the Osun State Police Headquarters in Osogbo.
Reacting to the allegations, the Osun Amotekun Corps denied any wrongdoing.
In a statement by its spokesperson, Yusuf Idowu, the Corps described the claims as false and misleading, stating that Olaore was never arrested but merely invited for questioning over a formal complaint of cyberbullying against the Corps.
The statement added that after initial questioning, Olaore was handed over to the police for further investigation.
