Ex- Sports minister, AVM Bayo Lawal is dead

A former Minister of Youth and Sports and ex-Military Administrator of Benue State, Air Vice Marshal Bayo Lawal (Rtd) has passed away.
He reportedly died in his sleep at his home on Sunday, June 23.
Air Commodore Sani Zakari (rtd), the Sergeant At Arms at the National Assembly who confirmed the death to Vanguard stated that the daughter of the former minister, Mrs. Yinka Enahoro confirmed the development.
AVM Adebayo Hamed Lawal was born on 14 September 1941, in Offa, Kwara State.
He attended Government College, Ibadan from 1955 to 1962.
He joined the Nigerian Air Force in 1963 and was trained as a Military Pilot in West Germany.
AVM Lawal was at various times Commander, NAF Port Harcourt from 1969 to 1970, Commander, Enugu Air Force Base, 1970-72.
He as also Commander NAF Kano 1972 to 1973 and 1975 to 1977. He served as Air Officer Commanding HQ Tactical Air Command NAF Makurdi between 1977 and 1978.
AVM Lawal was Commander, Nigerian Air Force Base, Makurdi, 1977-78, and later appointed Military Governor of Benue State in July 1978 until October 1979. He was later appointed Minister of Youth and Sports.
He will be buried on Monday June 24, 2024.
