Incident at our secretariat mere ‘storm in a teacup’- Lagos APC

The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has described the mild drama at its secretariat as a ‘storm in a teacup’, saying that uninvited thugs with ulterior motives infiltrated the meeting, causing the disruption.

A statement issued on Monday by the party’s spokesman, Seye Oladejo, said the media reports were sensational and not true reflection of what transpired.

“Our attention has been drawn to the news going round about a purported protest rocking Lagos APC. As much as this sensational piece of news might throw the opposition camp into premature celebration, the incident was a storm in a teacup,” Oladejo stated.

According to him, since taking office, State Chairman Hon. Cornelius Ojelabi has prioritized peaceful coexistence among party members across Lagos.

He added that the party Chairman has successfully reconciled various factions, promoting cohesion within the party.

Explaining further, Oladejo added that the disturbance in question occurred during a meeting aimed at reconciling different factions within the Alimosho local government area.

According to Oladejo, uninvited thugs with ulterior motives infiltrated the meeting, causing the disruption. The prompt intervention of security agencies helped bring the situation under control.

Oladejo emphasized the party’s long-standing success, attributing it to life-changing policies by the government and strict adherence to party discipline.

He also reiterated the APC’s commitment to maintaining internal order, highlighting the party’s effective mechanisms for dispute resolution.

“Lagos State APC has a time-tested mechanism for settling disputes and will not hesitate to wield the big stick if need be. The sacrifices of the founding fathers of the party to engender democracy cannot be sacrificed on the altar of indiscipline and intolerance,” Oladejo added.

While acknowledging the role of protests in a democratic society, Oladejo stressed that such actions must adhere to acceptable norms and respect the rights of others.

Meanwhile, there were reports of attack on the party’s Chairman, Ojelabi at the secretariat by some party members from the Alimosho federal constituency.

It was gathered that the members stormed the secretariat to protest against alleged injustice against some of their leaders by the state leadership.
