EXCLUSIVE: Lagos APC yet to decide anointed candidate even after GAC meeting

By Innocent Raphael –

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State is yet to make a decision on its governorship candidate, as the much-anticipated meeting of the Governance Advisory Council (GAC) ended without addressing the issue.

Expectations had been high that the meeting of the party’s highest decision-making body in the state would provide clarity on who would emerge as the anointed candidate for the next governorship election. However, sources revealed to Western Post that the meeting ended without any discussion on the matter.

According to sources, none of the GAC members was willing to comment on the outcome of the meeting, maintaining silence after the gathering.

It was, however, gathered that discussions at the meeting focused on other party matters, including the ongoing congresses in the state and the recently released list of local council supervisory councillors.

The meeting, which was held on Monday at the Lagos residence of President Bola Tinubu, was presided over by the president, who remains the overall leader of the party.

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, former governor Akinwunmi Ambode and other key party stakeholders were in attendance.

Meanwhile, several prominent figures have been identified as frontline aspirants for the APC governorship ticket. They include Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat, Senator Tokunbo Abiru, who represents Lagos East, Minister of Education Maruf Alausa, former governor Akinwunmi Ambode, and the Principal Secretary to the President, Hakeem Muri-Okunola.

The development suggests that the wait for the party’s preferred governorship candidate in Lagos continues.
