The Oyo State government has issued an alert following a severe heat stress advisory from the Nigerian Meteorological Agency.

While urging residents to limit outdoor activities between 12 pm and 4 pm, stay under shades, and remain well-hydrated by drinking 2–3 litres of water daily, the Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, Ademola Aderinto, revealed that temperatures are expected to reach 41°C in coming days.

According to the commissioner, it is essential for residents to consume water-rich foods like fruits and vegetables, anid advising the public to wear light, breathable clothing, use protective gear such as hats and sunglasses, and ensure proper ventilation at home and work.

Residents were equally warned never to leave children, elderly people, or pets in parked vehicles, as temperatures inside cars can become fatal within minutes.

Aderinto further encouraged vigilance for early signs of heat stress, identifying dizziness, fatigue, nausea, or convulsions as early symptoms.

He also called on citizens to check on vulnerable neighbors, protect green spaces and support tree-planting initiatives to mitigate long-term heat effects.
