EXCLUSIVE: Obasa set to remain as Lagos Speaker despite initial expectations

Following the reinstatement of Hon. Mudasiru Obasa as the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly after Mojisola Meranda’s resignation, indications have emerged that he may remain in the position despite earlier expectations that he would step down shortly after his return.

His reinstatement was initially seen as a temporary arrangement under a deal brokered by an intervention committee led by Chief Bisi Akande.

A source close to the arrangement told WESTERN POST, “That is the deal,” confirming that the original plan may have been altered.

Other sources suggest that the decision to have Obasa continue in the role may have been sanctioned by the leadership in Lagos.

The leadership dispute in the Lagos State House of Assembly began when internal conflicts led to Obasa’s removal and his replacement with Meranda.

In response, an intervention committee headed by Chief Akande was formed to resolve the impasse.

Under the initial agreement, Obasa’s reinstatement was meant to be temporary.

However, following Meranda’s resignation, the plan appears to have changed, as the reinstated Obasa has neither stepped down nor addressed the matter more than 48 hours after resuming as Speaker.
