Explosion rocks APC secretariat in Rivers

Explosives were reportedly detonated at the Rivers State secretariat of the All Progressives Congress, (APC) in Port Harcourt.

The incident happened on Saturday morning, some hours to the Local Government election in the state.

Videos of the incident, thought to have been caused by dynamite, are making the rounds on social media. They show damage to the APC secretariat’s main gate, security house, and portions of a nearby structure.

Chief Tony Okocha, the head of the main opposition party’s state caretaker committee, accused Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s supporters of carrying out the attack.

There has been tension in the state between loyalists of the governor, the police and groups loyal to the Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike, ahead of Saturday’s election.
