Family Insider raises alarm over disappearance of Eberenna Augustine Obi in Anambra

A member of the Obiorah family has raised a distress call over the sudden disappearance of their son, Eberenna Augustine Obi, whose whereabouts remain unknown following mounting threats and a police search linked to allegations surrounding his private life.
According to the family insider, who spoke on condition of anonymity due to safety concerns, what should have been a quiet life journey for the 32-year-old has spiraled into fear, uncertainty, and silence.
“We no longer know where our son is,” the relative said, voice laden with worry. “Since the incident, everything has changed. He vanished, and we have not heard from him.”
Obi, born on December 29, 1993, in Uruokwe Village, Egbema, Ozubulu, in Ekwusigo Local Government Area of Anambra State, was raised in a strict, conservative household by his late father, Abel John Obiorah, and his mother, Chinyere Augustina Obiorah. Growing up among eight siblings, his early life reflected discipline and deep-rooted cultural values.
However, beneath the surface, Obi reportedly struggled with an identity he could not openly express in his community.
Family accounts and personal testimonies reveal that as early as his secondary school days, Obi faced severe backlash after a private encounter with a fellow student was exposed. The consequences were harsh—ranging from physical assault by peers to disciplinary actions by school authorities.
“He suffered a lot, even as a boy,” the relative disclosed. “Instead of help, he was treated like a problem.”
Despite the trauma, Obi pressed on. He completed his education, earning a Nigeria Certificate in Education from Nwafor Orizu College of Education, and later graduated from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, in 2019, where he studied Education and Political Science.
But while his academic and professional life appeared stable, pressure from family members over marriage intensified over the years. In what the relative described as “a forced compromise,” Obi eventually entered into a traditional marriage in December 2022, followed by a legal ceremony in October 2024.
The situation took a dramatic turn on December 29, 2025—his birthday—when news broke that a former associate had been arrested during a police operation reportedly involving allegations tied to same-sex relationships. During interrogation, Obi’s name was allegedly mentioned.
Soon after, according to the family source, security operatives began visiting their home in Uruokwe, making inquiries about his whereabouts. The development quickly sparked tension within the community.
“People started talking. Some were angry. Others made threats,” the relative recounted. “It became dangerous.”
Fearing possible arrest, violence, or worse, Obi reportedly went into hiding. Since then, all contact has been lost.
“We just want to know he is safe,” the family member pleaded. “Whatever the situation, he is still our son.”
As uncertainty lingers, Obi’s disappearance underscores the climate of fear faced by individuals living under intense societal and legal pressures. For his family, however, the issue is painfully simple: a missing son, and a silence that grows heavier with each passing day.
