Farmer survives machete attack by suspected herdsmen in Ekiti

By Boye Oyeyemi –

An Ekiti farmer, Ajide Kayode Aaron, has narrowly escaped death following an alleged attack by suspected Fulani herdsmen in Iro-Ekiti, Moba Local Government Area of the state.

According to reports, the incident occurred while the farmer was on his way to his farmland, where he was confronted by three herdsmen.

Sources said the trouble started after Aaron warned the herdsmen to stay away from his farm, a caution that allegedly angered them and led to a physical confrontation.

He was reportedly slapped and chased by the men, who later attacked him with a machete while pursuing him on the farmland.

The farmer claimed that the assailants said they were acting on instructions from their leader to attack any farmer found on the land.

It was gathered that the victim had previously complained about repeated destruction of his crops and livestock by the same group of herdsmen.

A video of the incident, which has since circulated among residents, has heightened fear in the community, with farmers expressing concern about their safety while going to their farms.
