Redeemer’s University charges matriculating students on values, excellence at 21st matriculation

The Vice Chancellor of Redeemer’s University, Ede, Prof. Shadrach Akindele, has urged newly admitted students to distinguish themselves through character, discipline and integrity, describing the 2025/2026 intake as a “remarkable set.”
Speaking at the university’s 21st matriculation ceremony, Akindele said the event was more than a routine academic ritual, marking a decisive transition into what he called a “covenant community of learning, character and calling.”
He noted that the fresh students were admitted not by chance but by divine purpose, stressing that being “remarkable” was not about popularity or noise, but about standing out through values, discipline and uncompromising integrity.
The Vice Chancellor cautioned that the matriculation oath is a commitment, not a formality, urging students to be mindful of their choices, friendships and discipline, which he said would ultimately define their future.

Akindele announced that the matriculating students are the first set in the university’s history to graduate with double certifications—one in their academic discipline and another in an entrepreneurship vocation—a development that comes with higher expectations.
He reiterated that Redeemer’s University is committed to producing academically sound graduates, morally upright leaders and spiritually grounded global citizens.
The Registrar of the university, Mr. David Akintola, administered the matriculation oath to the students, after which the Vice Chancellor formally welcomed them into the Redeemer’s University academic community.
A total of 1,644 students were matriculated at the ceremony, comprising 286 postgraduate students and 1,358 undergraduates. The undergraduate cohort includes 1,236 UTME candidates and 122 Direct Entry students.
