Femi Fadairo, an aide to Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa has urged Nigerian politicians to emulate the late Afenifere leader Pa Reuben Fasoranti, whom he described as a model of contentment, humility and selflessness.
Fadairo, the special adviser to the governor on Special Duties and Strategy, said Fasoranti demonstrated that public office holders could live fulfilled lives without being driven by the pursuit of personal wealth and gains.
He spoke with journalists on Thursday during a condolence visit to the late elder statesman’s residence in Ijapo, Akure, following his death at the age of 100 on Tuesday.
According to Fadairo, Fasoranti’s lifestyle offered valuable lessons for politicians and other public office holders, particularly on the need to appreciate their blessings rather than allow the desire for wealth and personal advancement to influence their decisions.
“Baba Fasoranti, as a political figure in Nigeria, had the spirit of contentment. All politicians should emulate his spirit of contentment,” he said, adding that the deceased was satisfied with what God had given him during his lifetime.
Fadairo described Fasoranti’s death as a major loss to Akure, Ondo State and Nigeria, noting that the late statesman was a father figure, mentor and political leader whose influence extended beyond his immediate community.
“Akure has lost a rare gem, a mentor, a father and a leader. Today, we are here to commiserate with the entire Akure Kingdom, the family, the state and the nation,” he added.
The governor’s aide urged political leaders to reflect on Fasoranti’s values and uphold them in public service and their personal relationships. He also encouraged the bereaved family to draw strength from the long life and enduring legacy of the deceased as they mourn their loss.
