FCT Poll: Results from polling units (LIVE UPDATES)
Voting has ended in some polling units across FCT Abuja, where residents are casting their votes to elect local government officials for the next four years.
Western Post reported that voting began around 8:30 AM in many of the 5,720 polling units across the six area councils: Abaji, AMAC, Bwari, Gwagwalada, Kuje, and Kwali.
Earlier, this newspaper reported that the ongoing area council elections in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) recorded low voter turnout in parts of Bwari and Kuje, with only a few residents observed at polling units early in the day.
According to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) portal, 680,415 registered voters across 62 wards are expected to participate, supported by 4,345 Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) machines.
A total of 637 candidates, including two women, from 17 political parties, are contesting 68 positions—62 councillors and six area council chairpersons—in elections that observers describe as distinct from other local government polls nationwide.
Two incumbents are seeking re-election: Abubakar Abdullahi of Abaji Area Council and Christopher Maikalangu of AMAC, both under the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Results will be announced at each polling unit by INEC officials before being collated at ward and area council levels.
