The Ooni of Ife, Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, Ojaja II, has unveiled Ojaja Soft Drinks, a new indigenous beverage brand designed to promote African innovation, economic self-reliance and healthier consumer choices, while calling on Nigerians to embrace locally produced goods.
The monarch, who is the Permanent Chairman of the Southern Nigeria Traditional Rulers Council and Permanent Co-Chairman of the National Council of Traditional Rulers in Nigeria, described the launch as the realisation of a long-standing vision to build a globally competitive brand rooted in Africa’s cultural heritage.
In a statement issued on Saturday by the Director of Media and Public Affairs at the palace, Otunba Moses Olafare, the Ooni said Africa’s future must be deliberately shaped by Africans through strong advocacy for excellence in locally made products.
According to him, Ojaja Soft Drinks represent more than a commercial venture, but rather a symbol of resilience, enterprise and the continent’s capacity to produce world-class goods defined by quality and innovation. The monarch noted that the brand is deeply inspired by Africa’s rich heritage and fertile resources, stressing that it stands as a declaration that the continent can create and deliver globally competitive products.
Oba Ogunwusi explained that the drinks are produced using carefully sourced natural ingredients to promote healthier living while preserving authentic African taste, with emphasis on wholesome local content and reduced reliance on excessive artificial additives.
The Ooni urged Nigerians, particularly youths, entrepreneurs and investors, to champion indigenous innovation and prioritise made-in-Africa goods, expressing confidence that the brand would help position African products competitively on the global stage.
Meanwhile, as part of its rollout strategy, Ojaja Soft Drinks will feature a diverse range of flavours, including Ojaja Zero Cola, Ojaja Cherry Cola, Ojaja Apple, Ojaja Orange, Ojaja Lemon & Lime, Ojaja Tropical, Ojaja Tamarind, Ojaja Chapman, Ojaja Ginger Lemon, Ojaja Bitter Lemon, Ojaja Ginger Ale and Ojaja Soda Water, catering to both traditional and contemporary tastes.
