FCT residents lament worsening power supply as AEDC blames national grid

Residents of satellite towns in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) have decried the worsening power situation in the area, urging the government to provide lasting solutions.

Some residents who spoke to newsmen on Sunday in Abuja said the poor electricity supply has negatively affected their businesses, forcing many to rely on generators or solar panels.

According to them, most satellite towns in the FCT previously enjoyed at least eight hours of stable electricity daily, a situation that has since deteriorated, prompting calls for a review of the privatisation of the power sector.

Western Post confirmed that affected areas include Bwari Area Council, Kuje Area Council, the Karu/Nyanya axis, Lugbe and Airport Road, Kubwa and Gwarinpa, Gwagwalada Area Council, as well as Idu and Karmo.

Reacting to the complaints, the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) attributed the poor supply to limited energy from the national grid.

The company, in a statement posted on X (formerly Twitter), said several communities were experiencing outages due to reduced grid allocation but assured restoration.

“Our technical team is closely monitoring the situation in real time and remains fully committed to restoring normal service at the earliest possible time once our grid allocation improves,” AEDC wrote.

The company also thanked customers for their patience and understanding as efforts continue to address the challenge.
