The Federal Executive Council (FEC), chaired by President Bola Tinubu, has approved the procurement of N985 million for the purchase of body scanners to be used at the Abuja and Lagos international airports.

The Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation, Lateef Fagbemi announced this decision on Tuesday during a briefing with State House correspondents after the FEC meeting.

He mentioned that three proposals were presented to the council for approval, one of which was the “procurement of two units of body scanners to be used at both Abuja and Lagos International Airports, at a cost of N985 million.”

On June 24, the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) inaugurated 120 officers for the aviation security (AVSEC) special force to secure assets and lives at the airports.

The minister of aviation and aerospace development, Festus Keyamo said the decision to set up the special force is part of steps to curb the menace of touting and other illegal activities around Nigeria’s airports.
